IRCTC E-Pantry Service Launched, Get Hot Food Delivered at Your Train Seat

E Pantry Service: Good news for railway passengers. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the IRCTC E-Pantry Service. Through this service, passengers will now be able to get hygienic, fixed-price, and hot food at their train seats. You know, you might say that this already happens.

That’s right, but that service was for premium trains. Now, arrangements for on-seat food have been made for passengers travelling on mail and express trains as well. Through IRCTC’s e-pantry service, passengers can now book food and water online in advance on 25 mail and express trains. The food will be delivered directly to their seats.

How will e-pantry work?

For your information, this service is only available on trains where meals are not included in the ticket. The e-pantry service can be availed through the IRCTC ticket booking website and app. After placing an order, the passenger will receive a confirmation message and a Meal Verification Code (MVC) via SMS or email. Meals can be collected by presenting this MVC or SMS to the vendor during the journey.

IRCTC first launched this service on the Vivek Express (train number 22503/04), one of India’s longest-distance trains. Now, this service has been extended to 25 mail and express trains.

Here are the names of some of the major trains for your convenience

  1. Swatantra Senani Express
  2. Swarnjayanti Express
  3. Karnataka Sampark Kranti Express
  4. Mangala Island Express
  5. Kalinga Utkal Express
  6. Pushpak Express
  7. Paschim Express
  8. Netravati Express
  9. Grand Trunk Express
  10. Poorva Express
  11. Lichchavi Express
  12. Azad Hind Express

While we’re talking about IRCTC, here’s one more important thing to know. Indian Railways has changed the ticket booking timings for users who have linked their IRCTC accounts to Aadhaar. Now, whenever the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) opens, an IRCTC account linked to Aadhaar will be required to book tickets that day. Previously, this rule was only in effect for a limited time, but now its scope has been expanded. This change has come into effect from Monday, December 29, 2025.
