Indian Railways–AI will tell whether the ticket will be confirmed or not, New System to be Introduce

Every day, millions of individuals travel by train. Many secure their tickets months ahead to guarantee confirmation.

Indian Railways Ticket Booking: Indian Railways to introduce new ticket booking system. Indian Railways is modernizing its ticket reservation system, which has been in place for 40 years, by incorporating AI technology to make ticket booking five times quicker. Discover the new regulations.

Revamped ticket booking process

Every day, millions of individuals travel by train. Many secure their tickets months ahead to guarantee confirmation. However, travelers frequently encounter problems that hinder their ability to obtain tickets, such as sluggish servers and insufficient confirmation details. To tackle these challenges, Indian Railways is overhauling its 40-year-old Passenger Reservation System (PRS). The upgraded system will utilize AI technology, streamlining the ticket booking process like never before.

As per the railways, the existing reservation system was established in 1986. Although there have been minor updates over the years, a comprehensive upgrade is now in progress. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has instructed officials to begin transitioning trains to the new system starting in August.

What prompted the need for a new system?

Since the launch of online ticket booking, its growing popularity has placed immense strain on the outdated system. Currently, around 88 percent of ticket bookings in India are conducted online. This surge causes the old system to lag during peak times. Additionally, passengers struggle to receive timely updates. The RailOne app from Indian Railways is becoming increasingly popular. Released last July, it has been downloaded over 35 million times and provides both ticket booking and complaint resolution services.

AI will now forecast the likelihood of a ticket being confirmed. It will utilize historical data for its predictions. An AI-driven predictive feature has been integrated into the new system. This feature will assess the chances of a waitlisted ticket being confirmed based on past booking data and trends. According to the Railways, the accuracy of this prediction will reach up to 94 percent.

Booking will now be five times quicker

Regarding booking speeds, the updated system can handle 125,000 tickets every minute, in contrast to the existing system’s limit of 25,000 tickets per minute. This enhancement will alleviate server strain and assist in combating touts and unauthorized software.

Travel dates can be modified without incurring cancellation fees

With the new system, travelers will have the flexibility to adjust their travel dates without needing to cancel their confirmed tickets. Most importantly, there will be no cancellation fees. To avoid irregularities in Tatkal ticket bookings, the Railways has now made Aadhaar verification a requirement for online Tatkal reservations. Ticket booking will now be more efficient. Waitlisted tickets will be reported accurately. Passengers will face fewer server-related problems. Travelers will benefit from a straightforward and dependable service.
