Indian Railways’ new system will be entirely based on modern digital technology. The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is currently spearheading the development of this system. This new platform is expected to be several times faster than its predecessor. It will be capable of seamlessly handling simultaneous logins and booking requests from hundreds of thousands of users. The Railways’ objective is to make the ticket booking process smoother, faster, and more secure, thereby ensuring a hassle-free experience for passengers.

Currently, approximately 89 per cent of train tickets are booked online, while only 11 per cent are purchased directly from ticket counters. Consequently, the new system will serve to further strengthen the online booking platform. This will result in increased website speeds and significantly improve the chances of securing a confirmed ticket.
