While traveling on Indian Railways, we often ask – when is the train chart prepared? We all wonder if waiting list tickets will be confirmed, along with the excitement of our journey. In this post, we will explain the train chart preparation time, so your next train journey is easy and stress-free.
Usually, the first chart is prepared about four hours before the train’s scheduled departure. At this time, waiting list tickets are confirmed, and passengers get their seat numbers. However, this four-hour rule does not apply in all cases. The chart preparation time changes depending on the train’s departure time.\
Train Chart Timing
If Your Train Departs Between 5 AM and 2 PM:
If your train leaves between 5 AM and 2 PM, the chart is prepared the night before. Usually, you will get an SMS on your registered mobile number by 9 PM. This means even for early morning trains, you can know your ticket status the previous night.
If Your Train Departs Between 2 PM and 5 AM:
If your train leaves between 2 PM and 5 AM, the chart is prepared about eight hours before departure. You will also get your ticket confirmation and seat number through SMS in this case.
Final Chart and Current Availability
If any passenger cancels their ticket after the first chart is prepared, those seats become vacant. To fill these, the railway prepares a final chart about 30 minutes before the train departs.
Current Availability:
Seats that remain vacant or become available after cancellations are shown as “Currently Available.” Passengers can book these seats even shortly before the train departs. Tickets booked during this time are included in the final chart.
