Health Cover: Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has recently removed all age limits for buying health insurance. Now, even if a person is above 65 years of age, he can take health insurance for himself. Earlier, customers could not take health insurance after crossing 60, now that barrier has been removed. Good news for senior citizens. Even if there was a pre-existing disease, insurance could not be taken, now IRDAI has changed that rule too.
By removing the age limit for taking this health insurance, IRDAI is basically trying to build a much more integrated and acceptable healthcare ecosystem (Health Insurance). IRDAI is coming forward to provide proper protection to save from unwanted medical expenses. This new health insurance rule has been implemented since April 1. Now people of any age can take new health insurance.
In a recent notification, IRDAI has said that all insurance companies should clearly tell all their customers that from now on, people of all ages can get this health insurance. IRDAI has ordered to provide some additional benefits for senior citizens, along with the regulatory body to ensure that the claim process and complaint management are very fast.
From now on, according to IRDAI’s instructions, people can get health insurance even with serious diseases. These diseases include cancer, heart disease, kidney problems, and even AIDS. From now on, no insurance company will be able to deny insurance claims on the basis of all these diseases. In this case, if there is a pre-existing disease, its period has been reduced from 48 months to 36 months. That is, after this period, the insurance policy will provide coverage for all diseases. IRDAI has also provided facilities in the payment of premium. In this case, from now on, policyholders will be able to pay the premium in installments.
