Aadhaar update: If your Aadhaar card was made 10 years ago, then now is the time to get it updated again. Yes, you heard it right! There are clear instructions from the government that those whose Aadhaar card is more than 10 years old and they have not updated it in the meantime, they should get it re-verified as soon as possible. Otherwise, it may be difficult for you to get direct benefits of government schemes in future.

Why has Aadhaar become so important

Now Aadhaar is not just an identity card in the country. Nowadays, whether you want to get subsidy on gas cylinder, take grains from ration shop or get government money i.e. DBT in the bank account – Aadhaar card is asked first everywhere. Even in government hospitals, schools and government jobs, Aadhaar is required. In such a situation, if your Aadhaar is not up-to-date, then there will be a problem in your identification and your service may stop.

Face, finger and address can change in 10 years

Imagine, when you got Aadhaar 10 years ago, your age must have been different. The face, fingerprint and eyes of that time are not the same now. On top of that, if you have got married, changed house or got some correction done in the name, then the old data will now be considered wrong. In such a situation, repeated failure in biometric verification has become a common thing. OTP not coming, name not matching in the government system – all these small problems can take the form of big problems.

Clear message of UIDAI

UIDAI i.e. Unique Identification Authority of India has recently said that those whose Aadhaar is more than 10 years old, they must get it updated. Now even though getting this update done is not mandatory i.e. not necessary, but its impact is very big. Because if you do not update and there is a mistake in your data, then government benefits like free ration, subsidy, pension, scholarship, and even government assistance transferred to bank accounts can get stuck.

Ration, gas, pension can be stopped

Now let’s talk about the direct impact – if you do not update Aadhaar and there is a mistake in your information, then it can create trouble for you. Imagine if Aadhaar is linked to the ration card and the biometric fails, then the family’s ration will stop. The gas cylinder subsidy which comes directly to the account will not be transferred. The money for pension or scholarship of the elderly can also be stopped. That is, a small negligence can create problems for the whole family.

How to do Aadhaar re-verification

If you feel that now Aadhaar has to be updated, then you can do this work both online and offline. If you want to do it online, then go to the UIDAI website and login, enter your Aadhaar number and OTP and make changes in the profile. If you want to update anything like photo, fingerprint, address or name, then there is a complete option on the portal. If you want to get it done offline, then go to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Common Service Center (CSC), fill the form and show the new documents.

The government’s aim is that every citizen of the country should be connected to a reliable digital identity so that the benefits of the schemes reach directly to those for whom they are made. And fraud can also be eliminated. So if you want to keep getting your government benefits without any interruption, then get your Aadhaar updated without delay.
