GST Relief – Giving a big relief to the consumers, the GST Council has exempted many essential commodities from tax. Now there will be no GST on milk, chenna and paneer. Along with this, roti, paratha and other daily use items have also been exempted from tax. The council has taken a decision on a total of 391 products, which include many food items, medicines and essential items related to life. This step has been taken to control inflation and provide relief to the common people. The new GST rates will come into effect from September 22.
Big relief on these food items
There will be no tax on milk (UHT), chenna, paneer (pre-packaged and labelled). Roti, chapati, paratha and pizza bread have also been completely exempted from GST. Tax on butter, ghee, butter oil, cheese, condensed milk, cocoa powder, chocolate, prepared food products made from flour, pasta, noodles, cakes, biscuits, ice cream etc. has been reduced from 18% or 12% to 5%.
GST on dry fruits like dates, figs, mangoes, oranges, lemons reduced from 12% to 5%. Dry fruits like almonds, pistachios, hazelnuts, pine nuts etc. will now be charged only 5% GST. Tax on sugar, jaggery and sugar syrup has been reduced from 12 per cent to 5 per cent. Now only 5% GST on things like sweets, namkeen, jam, jelly, pickles, sauces, ice cream. Food items moving from 5 to 0: No tax on UHT milk, chenna and paneer, all Indian breads, roti, paratha, chapati. Food items falling in the 12-18 per cent bracket include sauces, pasta, cornflakes, ghee, butter, instant noodles, chocolates, coffee and preserved meats.
GST on sausages, meat products, fish caviar, seafood reduced from 12% to 5%. Tax on tendu leaves, katha, and other herbal products reduced from 18% to 5%. GST on malt, starch, vegetable thickeners, and glycerol was also reduced to 5%. Animal fats, fish oil, animal oils like ghee will now be taxed at only 5%.

After the decision of the GST Council, everyday items like milk, cheese, roti, paratha, butter, ghee, dry fruits and sweets will become cheaper. This change in GST rates will bring a big relief to consumers before the festive season. At the same time, the government says that this decision has been taken to reduce inflation and give relief to consumers.
