Whether you are a job seeker, housewife, student, unemployed, you can enroll yourself in two important insurance schemes of the central government for just Rs 456. These two schemes are Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY). They have been providing financial protection to crores of people across the country since 2015. Let us know the details about these two schemes.

1. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY)

Premium: Rs 436 per year
Age limit: 18-50 years
Summary: Rs 2 lakh
Term: From June 1 to May 31 every year, renewable up to 55 years

Under this scheme, if the policyholder dies (for any reason—natural, accidental or pandemic), the nominee will get Rs 2 lakh. There is no refund if the policyholder is healthy at the end of the policy term, as it is a term insurance.

Documents required to avail PMJJBY: Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport size photograph, mobile number, bank account passbook.

2. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY)

Premium: Rs. 20 per year
Age limit: 18-70 years
Supply: Death or total disability: 2 lakhs. Partial permanent disability: 1 lakh

This scheme provides financial assistance to the family in case of accidental death. Rs 20 is deducted from the bank account every year before June 1 through auto-debit method.

How to get PMSBY:

  • You can enroll in this scheme from any savings bank account
  • Each customer can avail this benefit from only one account
