New Delhi: If you haven’t filed your income tax return, worry no more, as the government has provided significant relief. The Central Board of Direct Taxes has decided to extend the deadline for filing income tax returns for the assessment year 2025-26 to assist taxpayers.

Following this decision, the Board has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for 2024-25 to December 10, 2025. Previously, the deadline for filing income tax returns was October 31, 2025. This decision was taken for the convenience of taxpayers. Now, they can file their income returns with ease. This decision is also considered a relief for taxpayers.

For whom is the relief considered important?

The CBDT has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns. This is important for taxpayers who are subject to audit or whose annual turnover exceeds one crore rupees. This move by the CBDT is an effort to provide taxpayers with more time to prepare and file their returns, especially those dealing with complex financial transactions.

Furthermore, it has been decided to extend the due date for filing audit reports for the previous year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26) under the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The originally scheduled date has now been extended to November 10, 2025. This extension will provide taxpayers with additional time to complete the audit process and prepare the report.

No change in the remaining dates

Experts believe this will provide special assistance to small and medium businesses, which often face last-minute pressures. Taxpayers can monitor the official income tax portal (incometax.gov.in) for these updates. CBDT has clarified that apart from these extensions, other dates will remain the same.
