Ration Card Update: The process for obtaining a ration card has been completely changed since 2026. The government has taken several new steps to make it more digital and transparent. Now, citizens will no longer have to visit government offices repeatedly. The Food and Civil Supplies Department has made most services online and streamlined the application process. According to the new rules, the concerned officer will process your form within 15 days of application. There are provisions for action against the concerned officer if there is any delay during this period.
e-KYC and PAN Card Mandatory
Since 2026, it has become mandatory for all family members to have their Aadhaar cards linked for ration card applications. Biometric verification (e-KYC) of all members is also required. In addition, PAN card information is being requested to increase transparency in financial transactions.

How to Apply Online
Ordinary citizens cannot log in directly to the government portal, so you will need to use a CSC (Common Service Center) for the application. Visit your nearest CSC or e-District center and provide all the documents and details of your family members to the operator. The operator will fill out your form on the fcs.up.gov.in portal. During this process, the photograph of the head of the family (female) will be uploaded, and Aadhaar verification will be done. After the application, you will receive an acknowledgment receipt with an application number. Keep this number safe as it will be needed to check the application status.
