Free LPG Cylinder: Government to Provide Free Gas Cylinders plus Rs 853 on Holi and Diwali

Free LPG Cylinder: If you live in Delhi, there’s good news for you. Fulfilling its election promise, the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi has approved a scheme to provide free gas cylinders for Holi and Diwali. The cabinet has allocated a budget of approximately Rs 243 crore for this purpose. If you live in Delhi and want to take advantage of this scheme, here’s how you can access it and its terms and conditions:

Who will get the benefit?

All 1.75 million ration card-holding families in Delhi will benefit from this scheme. This scheme is primarily for the economically weaker sections. If your home receives piped gas (PNG), you will still receive cash under this scheme. The government will not send the cylinder to your home, but will instead transfer the cost directly to your bank account. A typical ration card holder will receive the full cost of one cylinder, i.e., Rs 853, directly into their account.

If you already benefit from the Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), since you already receive a subsidy of Rs 300 from the central government, the Delhi government will provide you with the remaining Rs 553. This means the cylinder will be net free for you as well.

What do you need to do to get the benefits?

This scheme’s benefits are available through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), so you need to ensure the following:

Aadhaar Linking: Your bank account must be linked to your Aadhaar card.

e-KYC: Ensure that the e-KYC of your ration card and gas connection is complete.

Mobile Number: Your mobile number must be linked to Aadhaar so that you can receive SMS about the money coming in.

Gas Connection: The gas connection should be in the name of the head of the ration card only.

When will you receive your money?

The money will be transferred to your account before Holi this year (March 2026). The same amount will be sent again around Diwali. You’ll need to book your cylinder yourself and pay for it first. The government will later refund the full amount to your account. This process will be completely digital, so you won’t need to visit any offices.
