Reports indicate that BIS officials spent 15 hours at the Amazon Sellers Private Limited warehouse in the Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area of Delhi, where they seized over 3,500 electronic products, including geysers and food mixers, with an estimated total value of approximately Rs 70 lakh.

Additionally, a raid was carried out at the warehouse of Flipkart’s subsidiary, Instacart Services, resulting in the seizure of 590 pairs of sports footwear, which were found to be missing the necessary manufacturing marks, raising concerns about their quality. The estimated value of the confiscated footwear is around Rs 6 lakh. BIS is implementing stringent measures nationwide to enforce quality standards.

Last month, similar raids took place in various cities, including Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Lucknow, and Sriperumbudur. According to BIS, there are 769 product categories that require mandatory certification under Indian regulations. The sale of substandard products without the appropriate licenses and certifications is deemed illegal in India. Under the BIS Act of 2016, individuals who sell or distribute such products without authorization may face legal repercussions, including substantial fines and potential imprisonment.

As of now, neither Amazon nor Flipkart has issued an official statement regarding the raids. In light of consumer safety and quality assurance, it is anticipated that the government’s campaign may intensify in the near future.
