PF withdrawal via ATM: Exciting news for PF account holders! By the end of May, PF withdrawals through ATMs may commence, offering substantial relief to millions of PF account holders. Last year, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) introduced EPFO 3.0 to enhance its digital infrastructure and operational methods.

This innovative system, anticipated to be fully operational by mid-2026, aims to make all PF-related processes more user-friendly. The new features include simplified access to the provident fund, automatic claim settlements, and smooth fund transfers to the employee’s selected bank account.

Say goodbye to extensive paperwork!

A major improvement under EPFO 3.0 is the availability of PF withdrawals through ATMs and UPI. Withdrawing PF balances via UPI and ATMs will enable subscribers to access their funds easily whenever they need them, eliminating the hassle of lengthy paperwork or office visits. Reports indicate that the EPFO plans to provide special ATM cards to its subscribers, allowing them to withdraw PF funds directly from ATMs. These cards are expected to be connected to members’ PF accounts, facilitating straightforward withdrawals.

Certain criteria must be fulfilled

To withdraw PF funds through UPI or ATM, EPFO members need to satisfy specific conditions. They must possess an active Universal Account Number (UAN), which should be linked to KYC documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, account number, and IFSC code. Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya mentioned last month that the EPFO processed a remarkable 83.1 million claims in 2025–26, compared to 60.1 million in FY25.

Approximately 55.1 million claims were for advance or partial withdrawals, indicating improved access to PF accounts, which assists members in utilizing their savings to fulfill their needs. He also noted that around 71.11% of advance claims were processed within 3 days through the auto mode, an increase from 59.19% the previous year.

According to the EPFO dashboard, there are around 7,98,24,491 members in EPFO. Out of these, Aadhaar verified KYC of more than 7.74 crore members has been done. Out of these, 82,11,182 are pensioners.
