EPFO Update: PF Withdrawal for Emergencies Made Easy with New ₹5 Lakh Auto Claim Limit

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has brought some very good news for its members. EPFO has claimed that it has settled about 68.96 lakh claims within just three days since the beginning of the financial year 2025-26, i.e. from April 1 to June 5, 2025. This figure is about 50% of the total claims, which shows a significant improvement in the functioning of EPFO.

Let us know what this achievement means for EPFO members, how increasing the automatic claim limit will benefit more people, and what is the ultimate goal of EPFO. In 2024-25, only 39% of the claims were settled in 3 days.

During the last financial year 2024-25, the proportion of claims settled in three days was only 39%, which was equivalent to about 2.34 crore claims. This is significantly lower than last year, which indicates a tremendous acceleration in the functioning of EPFO. This acceleration will directly increase the convenience and efficiency of the members.

The automatic claim limit increased to ₹ 5 lakh

According to a senior EPFO official, EPFO is now going to increase the limit of Automatic Claim Settlement from the current ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 5 lakh! This is a very big change as it does not require any additional approval; only the Central Provident Fund Commissioner can approve this change.

Currently, claims up to ₹1 lakh such as:

All these claims are settled automatically within three days if eligible. Now that this limit is being increased to ₹5 lakh, more and more cases will come under the purview of this automated process, allowing a large number of members to get fast and hassle-free benefits. This will prove to be a boon for those who need money in an emergency.

The ultimate goal of EPFO is that all claims like pension, insurance, and EPF withdrawal can be settled within 72 hours. To achieve this ambitious goal, vigorous work is being done on technical upgrades and process optimization. New technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning can also be used to make claim processes even more efficient.

More than 7 crore members will get the benefit

Currently, EPFO has more than 7 crore active contributing members. After these new reforms, all these members will experience fast, transparent, and reliable service, which will greatly increase both the efficiency and reliability of EPFO. This will not only increase financial security for the members but will also establish EPFO as a more customer-centric organization.
