EPFO- Big news for EPFO members. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made a major change in the process of creating a Universal Account Number (UAN). From August 1, 2025, face authentication with Aadhaar card has been made mandatory for new UAN. This work can be done only through the UMANG app.
But this new rule can cause trouble for many employees. Employees whose mobile number is not linked to Aadhaar, or who do not have a smartphone or do not have a proper camera, will face problems in face authentication, due to which their UAN generation may get stuck.
Delay in UAN will not make PF account active
If UAN is not made, then the PF account of the employee will not be active and in such a situation, their PF money will not be deposited on time every month, which will not only delay the PF balance. However, those who are already registered with EPFO and already have a UAN number need not worry, this new rule has been implemented only for new employees.
This new system can cause problems especially for those people whose mobile number is not linked to their Aadhar card. Apart from this, many times the mobile phone camera not being good can also cause problems in face scanning. Apart from this, big staffing companies, which provide jobs to employees on contract, can face the most problems with this new process.
What is Umang App and how will it help?
Umang App is a mobile app of the Government of India, in which many government services including EPFO are available at one place. New employees will now have to get their face authenticated using this app, only then their UAN number will be generated.
Why is face authentication necessary?
It has been observed many times that two UAN numbers are generated in the name of the same person or a UAN is generated by mistake using someone else’s Aadhaar. To avoid such errors and to ensure that the identification is completely correct, EPFO has implemented this face recognition technology (Face Authentication).
