The Government of India has started many schemes to help workers in the unorganized sector. One important scheme is the e-Shram Card, which gives financial and social security to millions of workers. The government has now started new registrations under this scheme to let more workers join.
The main aim of this scheme is to help workers like laborers, rickshaw pullers, cart pullers, fishermen, weavers, agricultural laborers, and other daily wage workers. The government now gives ₹1,000 per month to e-Shram Card holders to make their life easier.
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM) is a pension scheme for unorganized sector workers aged 18–40 who earn ₹15,000 or less per month.
About the e-Shram Card Scheme
The e-Shram Card Scheme is a national scheme for unorganized workers. It is run by the Ministry of Labor and Employment. This card creates a database of workers with information about their work, income, skills, and life. The benefit of this scheme is that workers get government help directly in their bank accounts.
Many workers in India do not have formal jobs and do not get pension, insurance, or other help. The e-Shram Card aims to fix this so that every worker can get government benefits and social security.
Benefits of the e-Shram Card
The government gives ₹1,000 per month to workers registered on the e-Shram portal, under certain conditions. This money helps with daily needs and is sent directly to their bank accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer).
This help is useful for families with irregular incomes or work that depends on daily wages or weather. It gives financial support and confidence to workers.
Workers also get accident insurance, which gives money if there is an accidental death or disability. In the future, benefits like pension and maternity support will also be available through this card.
The e-Shram Card also works as identity for workers. It helps the government collect correct data on unorganized workers and use it for planning and policies.
How to Register
Registration is simple. Any unorganized worker can register themselves or go to the nearest Public Service Center.
Documents needed:
- Aadhaar Card
- Bank account details

During registration, workers provide details about their job, education, and address. After registration, they can download the card, which has a unique 12-digit number as their identity.
