Passengers who are traveling overnight should know this rule. Many of the passengers step into the platform for brush teeth. Or use the water taps on the platform for washing purposes. But wait, there is a rule for that. Without knowing this rule, you can fall in trouble.
This is an offence according to Indian Railways Rule
Do you also wake up early in the morning while travelling long distance by train and brush your teeth at the tap on the platform or wash the dirty utensils after eating food? If you do this then be careful. Because brushing your teeth at the taps or any other place (except toilets) in the railway station premises or washing dirty utensils is an offence. This is mentioned in the Rail Manual. You can also be fined for this act. This way your journey can become costly and you will remember it forever. Indian Railways is continuously running such campaigns.
What is the rule
According to the Railway Act 1989, it is an offence to brush teeth, spit, use the toilet, wash utensils, or wash clothes at places other than the designated places on the railway premises. These activities can only be performed in designated areas, such as toilets. Railway personnel can fine you up to Rs 500 for these prohibited activities. According to the Railway Manual, there is a provision for imposing fines for such acts. Not only this, many passengers throw away the wrappers in the train or on the station premises after eating chips or other items. This is also an offence. Throwing them at places other than the designated places also falls under the category of offence and you can be fined.
Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer stated that the railway has designated areas for brushing teeth, washing utensils, or other items. Passengers found doing these activities outside of these designated areas, such as at taps on platforms, can be fined. The railway’s commercial department periodically conducts campaigns and imposes fines on such individuals
