Power Cut: Some parts of Delhi will face power cuts today, January 27th, but don’t worry, it’s not a mistake. The electricity department is intentionally shutting off power to avoid bigger issues down the line. Just like we take our cars in for maintenance, the big transformers in neighborhoods are getting some preventive care to stop them from failing unexpectedly. Plus, systems like the 11KV feeders and HVDS are being upgraded to reduce voltage fluctuations. Before winter and the upcoming monsoon, branches that could touch the electric wires and pose a fire risk are being trimmed.

What should you keep in mind?

In most places, these power cuts will happen in phases between 10 a.m. and 4-5 p.m. If you have an electric motor at home, make sure to stock up on water beforehand. If you’re working from home, keep your laptop and power bank charged up. These outages won’t happen all at once across Delhi. They’re being rolled out in small blocks (in a planned way), mainly in Narela, Bawana, Nangloi, Mundka, Okhla, and parts of Laxmi Nagar. You can check the status of power outages and restorations at your home using the Tata Power or BSES apps with the CA number from your electricity bill.

Light rain and drizzle are on the forecast for Delhi today. Discoms often temporarily cut power in certain areas for safety or to avoid short circuits. Additionally, the Delhi Jal Board has issued a notice today that water supply will be disrupted in about 44 areas of the capital due to annual cleaning.

Appeal by Electricity Companies Regarding Power Cuts

Electricity distribution companies have appealed to consumers to complete their essential work in advance, keeping the maintenance schedule in mind. They have also advised hospitals, industries, and commercial establishments to arrange for backup power. The companies have stated that electricity supply will be restored once the work is completed ahead of schedule. For any emergency or additional information, consumers can contact the relevant electricity helpline or official website.
