DA Hike: Currently, central government employees are primarily concerned about the dearness allowance (DA). They are eagerly waiting for a decision regarding the DA for the January-June half-year. Normally, the central government announces the DA on or before Holi, but this time, it seems the decision has been postponed. Many central government employees were optimistic that a resolution would be reached during the Modi government’s cabinet meeting on Tuesday, but that did not occur.
What will the allowance increase be?
According to inflation data, the Dearness Allowance (DA) is expected to rise by about 2% for the January-June 2026 half-year. If this goes through, the DA could increase from the current 58% to around 60% of the basic pay. The Dearness Allowance is designed to help government employees cope with the effects of rising inflation.

The Union Cabinet approved a proposal to declare Madurai Airport in Tamil Nadu an international airport. Vaishnav said that several airlines have expressed interest in operating international flights from the airport. Madurai Airport is one of the oldest airports in Tamil Nadu. Granting international status to Madurai Airport will enhance regional connectivity, boost trade, and spur economic development in the region. The airport’s potential to attract international pilgrims and companies is commensurate with the city’s historical significance.
