Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana: Senior citizens were already included under this scheme. Now the Modi government has given a new surprise in the Ayushman Bharat scheme. On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet approved health coverage for all senior citizens above 70 years of age under this flagship scheme.
Who will get this benefit
On Wednesday, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved health coverage for all senior citizens above 70 years of age, irrespective of income, under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. As a result, you will get this benefit regardless of your economic status.
What are the benefits in it?
After the cabinet meeting today, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, “It has been decided to cover senior citizens above 70 years of age under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, universal health coverage. This is a big decision. There is great humanitarian thinking in this decision. They will get free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. This will cover about 4.5 crore families in the country, which will include about 6 crore senior citizens.”
Modi keeps promise
The expansion of cover to senior citizens above 70 years of age was earlier announced by Prime Minister Modi while launching the BJP’s manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections in April 2024.
Free services will be available irrespective of socio-economic status
According to a cabinet statement, all senior citizens above 70 years of age, irrespective of their socio-economic status, will be eligible for the benefits of AB PM-JAY. A new separate card will be issued to eligible senior citizens under this scheme.
