There is a big relief for common people of India. The central government is set to give everyone a gift. The central government has made a big announcement to control the prices of pigeon peas in the country. The government has purchased 340,000 tons of pigeon peas so far this year under the Price Support Scheme (PSS).

This may reduce the prices of pigeon peas in the coming time. This information has come to light in the data released by the Agriculture Ministry. The government has purchased pigeon peas at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) under PSS. The government aims to maintain a buffer stock of 10 lakh tonnes of tur dal for release in the open market with the aim of curbing prices so that the prices of pulses can be controlled in the market.

According to the ministry’s data, till April 13, the purchase of tur has reached 340,000 tonnes. The maximum purchase of 130,000 tonnes was made from Karnataka, where farmers are getting a state bonus of Rs 450 per quintal over the MSP of Rs 7,550 per quintal. Apart from this, purchases were made from Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh.

The government has also bought 17,000 tons of chana from Telangana and Madhya Pradesh. Despite approval for buying 27 lakh tonnes of chana, procurement remains slow as domestic prices have risen above the MSP of Rs 5,650 per quintal after the imposition of a 10 percent basic import duty. Procurement of lentils has reached 28,700 tonnes and moong 3,000 tonnes till April 13. PSS is implemented when market prices of certain agricultural commodities fall below the MSP.
