The Assam Government has launched a campaign entitled “Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan” (Chief Minister’s Women Entrepreneurial Campaign) on the heels of the successful launch in Bihar. The purpose of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan is to empower women and is being implemented nationally.

The Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan provides self-help groups of women (SHG) with a direct deposit of ₹10,000 into their bank accounts. The government has also pledged to provide each SHG the amount for months to come. The government believes this initiative will result in increased employment opportunities in rural areas and improved family incomes for women to begin small businesses.

According to CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, over 15,00,000 have benefited from this scheme to date. Initially, the target was to provide assistance to 32,0000 women but now the target has been increased to 40,0000. There is currently an estimated 80,000 women who have become millionaires via this scheme according to government estimates.

How will the scheme be availed?

How to apply?

This scheme is advantageous to women who belong to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) that have been officially recognised. To take part in this programme, please get in touch with an SHG situated at either the panchayat or block level in your district and submit your application type, which must include all necessary paperwork including your Aadhaar Card, bank account number(s), residence certificate, and certificates proving your association with the SHG.

Upon completion of all registration processes, Rs 10,000 will be deposited directly into the woman’s bank account.
