Banks will be closed tomorrow

If you plan to visit the bank tomorrow, it’s important to check if they will be open. Tomorrow, Saturday, May 16th, marks the third Saturday of the month. While banks are generally open on this day, they will be closed in one specific state. Tomorrow, Sikkim will observe State Day, which is why banks will not be operating there. However, bank branches in all other states will remain open as usual. In states like Delhi, UP, Bihar, and Rajasthan, banks will function on the third Saturday just like any other day.

May 16 will be State Day

On Saturday, May 16th, the state of Sikkim will celebrate its Statehood Day. This occasion is marked every year on May 16th. Sikkim officially became India’s 22nd state on May 16th, 1975, signifying the end of monarchy and the start of democracy. In 2026, Sikkim will commemorate its 50th Statehood Day, which is the reason for the bank closures. The RBI has also announced a bank holiday for all branches in Sikkim.

When will banks be closed in May?

In May 2026, banks will observe closures nationwide on Sundays: May 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. Additionally, banks will be closed on Saturday, May 23, due to the fourth Saturday. They will also be closed on May 16 for Statehood Day in Sikkim. There may be closures on May 26 for Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary. Furthermore, banks will be closed in most states on May 27-28 for Eid al-Adha.

Work can be done through online banking

You can continue to transact money or perform other transactions through online banking (UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS) and ATMs despite bank holidays. These services will not be affected by bank holidays.
