Bank Holiday Alert: Banks Closed December 22 – Why RBI Declared a Holiday?

Bank Holiday: If you’re thinking about heading to a bank branch tomorrow, Monday, December 22nd, to get some things done, make sure to check the RBI’s holiday list first. Banks will be closed on Monday. If you have any important banking tasks to finish up in December, double-check that holiday list. Many states will have banks closed continuously until the end of the month.

Banks are set to be closed tomorrow, Monday, November 22, 2025. But keep in mind that not all banks across the country will be closed tomorrow. Only in Sikkim will the banks be shut down. So, all government and private bank branches will be closed there. Losong/Namsung in Meghalaya is a significant traditional festival in Sikkim, celebrated with a lot of excitement by the Lepcha and Bhutia communities. This festival signifies the end of the harvest season and the welcoming of the Sikkimese New Year.

December 21 (Sunday)

Banks will be closed nationwide due to the weekly holiday.

December 22 (Monday)

In Sikkim, banks will be closed again for three days straight because of the Losung/Namsung festival.

December 24 (Wednesday)

Christmas Eve will be a holiday in Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

December 25 (Thursday)

On Christmas Day, banks will be closed all over the country.

December 26 (Friday)

Nagaland, Meghalaya, and Mizoram will also have a holiday after Christmas, meaning banks in these states will be closed for four days in a row.

December 27 (Saturday)

It’s the fourth Saturday of the month, so all banks will be closed again.

December 28 (Sunday)

Banks will be closed nationwide due to the weekly holiday.

December 30 (Tuesday)

In Meghalaya, banks will be closed to honor the death anniversary of freedom fighter U Kyang Nangbah.

December 31 (Wednesday)

Banks will be closed in Mizoram and Manipur for New Year’s Eve and the Imoinu Iratpa festival. Even when banks are closed, UPI, mobile banking, internet banking, and ATM services will continue to operate as usual. Complete important tasks in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.
