If you are also a Ration Card holder then today’s article is for you. Actually there is bad news for those who have not done e-KYC of all the family members registered in the ration card. Ration card holders who haven’t completed the e-KYC for all their family members by now will stop receiving rations starting in March. Additionally, those members’ names will be removed from the ration card.
The e-KYC portal is currently closed. It’s been over eight months since the process began in June, and so far, e-KYC has been completed for 28,95,735 out of 38,78,110 members. That leaves 9,82,375 members still needing to finish it. If the portal doesn’t reopen, those who haven’t done their e-KYC won’t be able to get rations.
In the four districts of the division, there are 9,75,184 ration card holders. This includes 3,52,284 in Banda, 1,98,018 in Chitrakoot, 2,36,378 in Hamirpur, and 1,88,504 in Mahoba. The government mandated e-KYC to prevent fraud, like adding extra members illegally or continuing to receive rations after a member has passed away.
E-KYC started in June using e-pass machines at ration shops, and dealers even went door-to-door to help with the process. However, despite more than eight months passing, the target hasn’t been met. The deadline was extended twice, but e-KYC wasn’t completed by the end of January, with only 74.67% of members having finished it.
There’s a chance that starting next month, those who haven’t completed their e-KYC won’t receive rations. The e-KYC portal has been closed since February 13, and the department is currently waiting for further instructions on whether it will reopen. If it doesn’t, 9,82,375 members in the Mandal will miss out on their rations.
