Amrit Bharat, Vande Bharat Express: Great news for train travelers! Indian Railways is rolling out emergency quotas for the Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat sleeper trains. The Railway Board has put out an order to boost the chances of passengers getting a seat or berth when they need to travel urgently.
Previously, only the women’s quota, disabled quota, senior citizen quota, and duty pass quota were available on these trains. Now, there will be a dedicated emergency quota for passengers facing special circumstances, which can be adjusted as needed. It’s important to note that the emergency quota seats are reserved for specific individuals or those recommended by them.
Emergency quota in Amrit Bharat trains
As per the Railway Board’s directive, Amrit Bharat trains with seven or more sleeper coaches will have an emergency quota of 24 berths. This is designed to help passengers who need to travel unexpectedly secure tickets more easily.
Class-wise quota in Vande Bharat sleeper trains
Different classes on Vande Bharat sleeper trains will have their own emergency quotas. First AC will offer four berths on weekdays and six on weekends. Second AC will have 20 berths available on weekdays and 30 on weekends. Third AC will feature an emergency quota of 24 berths on weekdays and 42 on weekends.
When will the new rule be implemented?
The Railways has stated that this emergency quota will kick in from the advance reservation period or the no-booking date, whichever comes first. This means that as soon as tickets are available in the system, seats will be set aside under this quota.
Why is this decision of Railways important?
This decision will increase passengers’ chances of getting tickets if they need to travel urgently. Passengers with special needs will receive significant relief, and the Railways will also be able to adjust the quota based on demand. The Railway Board has stated that zonal railways can adjust the emergency quota based on seat availability and needs. Until now, there was no provision for an emergency quota on Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat sleeper trains. Consequently, passengers faced difficulties in case of unexpected travel. The new decision will provide relief in special circumstances such as medical emergencies, family reasons, or government requirements. This move by the Railways is being seen as a major convenience for passengers. In the future, this system could make long-distance travel even more convenient. People will be benefitted from this Railways decision.
