UIDAI has made significant changes to Aadhaar update fees effective October 1, 2025, making many updates more expensive than before. Aadhaar is a crucial identification card for every Indian citizen, from opening a bank account to availing government schemes. If you want to change your photo, fingerprint, iris, or address in your Aadhaar, you will now have to pay a new, increased fee. Here’s a complete breakdown of the new rules and fees for Aadhaar updates.
New Aadhaar Update Fees
UIDAI has revised the fees for various types of updates to maintain Aadhaar services. This powerful identity card is crucial for every citizen, so it’s important to be aware of the new fees before updating. Biometric updates, such as fingerprint, iris, and photo updates, will cost ₹125. Note that biometric updates will always be free for children aged 5 to 7 and 15 to 17. Additionally, this facility will remain free for children aged 7 to 15 until September 30, 2026.

For demographic updates, such as changes to name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number, or email address, the fee is ₹50. However, if you update both biometric and demographic information simultaneously, you will have to pay a total fee of ₹175.
Documents Update
Regarding document updates, submitting proof of identity or address online through the myAadhaar portal is free until June 14, 2026. However, if you update these documents in person at an Aadhaar center, you will have to pay a fee of ₹75.
How to Change Name, Address, or Photo in Aadhaar
The UIDAI has made the process of making changes to Aadhaar transparent and easy, but it is important to provide the correct documents and follow the rules.
Biometric (Photo, Fingerprint) Updates
If you need to change your photo or fingerprint in your Aadhaar, this facility is not available online. You must visit your nearest Aadhaar center or enrollment center and pay a fixed fee of ₹125. There is no limit on the number of photo updates; you can update them at any time.
Demographic (Name, Address, Date of Birth) Updates
Some demographic updates, such as changing your address, can also be made online on the myAadhaar portal. However, changes to your name, date of birth, or gender sometimes require a visit to an Aadhaar center. A fee of ₹50 will apply for these changes. To change your name, you must submit a copy of the gazette notification and your old proof of identity (POI). The address on the gazette must match the address on your Aadhaar.

Required Documents and Rules
To change your name or date of birth, you must provide valid documents such as a birth certificate, passport, PAN card, gazette notification, marriage certificate, or court order.
How long does an Aadhaar update take
The Aadhaar update process typically takes 30 to 90 days. This time depends on the type of update and the verification process performed by UIDAI.
What updates can be made online
You can make address and document updates (by submitting proof of identity and address) through the myAadhaar portal. All other biometric and some demographic changes require a visit to a center.
How many types of updates can be made
There are three main types of updates: biometric (face, iris, fingerprint), demographic (name, date of birth, gender, address), and document updates (required for those who have not made any demographic changes in the last 8-10 years).
