Aadhaar-UAN Link

Aadhaar UAN Linking Deadline: The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization ( EPFO ) has warned that the deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar and Universal Account Number ( UAN ) will not be extended any further. Consequently, employers who have not yet completed Aadhaar-UAN linking will not be able to file ECR (Electronic Challan-cum-Return) from November 2025.

What is ECR?

The ECR is a digital document used by employers to submit their employees’ monthly contributions (returns) and payment information (challans) to the EPFO simultaneously. This filing process will be disrupted if Aadhaar-UAN linking is not in place.

Affected sectors and industries

According to the EPFO, employers who will be affected by this notice include those in the North-Eastern Region (NER), such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. Industries covered under this include beedi manufacturing, building construction and construction materials, and plantation industries (tea, coffee, pepper, cardamom, jute, rubber, cinchona, cashew, etc.). The EPFO has directed all regional and zonal offices to launch awareness and sensitization campaigns.

Aadhaar-UAN linking

Aadhaar-UAN linking and verification became mandatory from June 1, 2021. Employers and employees initially faced significant difficulties during implementation, so the deadline was extended several times. The deadline was then extended until October 31, 2025. According to the EPFO, sufficient time has now been available. Therefore, no further extensions will be granted.
