Aadhaar Card Update: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has teamed up with Behavioural Insights Limited (BIT), a behavioral research organization, to make the process of updating Aadhaar biometrics for children easier. This collaboration aims to enhance the Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU), which is necessary for every child aged between 5 and 15. The update includes adding new fingerprints, iris scans, and photographs.
Why do parents postpone biometric updates?
UIDAI has noticed that many parents, due to confusion, lack of information, or inconvenience, fail to update their children’s biometrics promptly. This leads to numerous children encountering challenges in accessing vital Aadhaar-related services. Therefore, UIDAI will collaborate with BIT to investigate the reasons behind parents’ delays in updates. Experts will then create straightforward notifications, reminders, and communication tools to assist families in completing updates on time.
Incentives through fee waiver
To promote children’s biometric updates, UIDAI has entirely waived the update fee for children aged 7 to 15 for one year. This waiver will be effective starting October 1, 2025. This initiative will benefit millions of families, particularly those who had previously delayed updates due to the associated fees. The temporary waiver aims to motivate parents to ensure the MBU is completed on schedule.
Why is this initiative significant?
According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, merging technology with an understanding of human behavior will enhance Aadhaar services and make them more user-friendly. He states that this initiative is intended to simplify the experience for families and maintain the accuracy of children’s Aadhaar records. BIT CEO Rachel Coyle also mentioned that behavior-based strategies can be extremely beneficial in ensuring timely biometric updates. This will enable children to access essential Aadhaar-related services without any difficulties.
Why is it crucial to update biometric information on time?
Timely updates of biometric data are essential to keep a child’s Aadhaar record accurate and valid. This accuracy is vital because Aadhaar is connected to various government schemes, identity documents, educational benefits, and welfare programs. When records are precise, children can easily access these services.
Where can you update Aadhaar information, and what is the process?
To update their child’s Aadhaar biometrics, parents need to visit any authorized Aadhaar enrollment center. At these centers, the child’s fingerprint, iris scan, and new photograph will be taken again and promptly updated in the Aadhaar record. To locate the nearest center to your residence, you can check the Bhuvan Aadhaar portal. This portal offers a comprehensive list of all authorized Aadhaar centers nationwide along with their addresses. Parents can choose the closest enrollment center and head directly to the update location.
