What is the Biometric Aadhaar Lock?
It is a security feature that allows you to lock your fingerprint and iris data linked to your Aadhaar. When you lock your biometrics, no one will be able to perform biometric verification using your Aadhaar number. This significantly reduces the possibility of misuse of Aadhaar.
In the recent past, cases of Aadhaar-related fraud have been reported, where people have suffered losses without knowing it. Locking your biometrics ensures that your fingerprint or eye scans cannot be used without your permission. This feature is especially important for those whose Aadhaar is linked to a bank account.
How to Lock Your Biometric Aadhaar?
To do this, you need to visit the official UIDAI website. Go to the “My Aadhaar” section on the website and select the “Biometric Lock/Unlock” option. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter it to complete the verification. Once logged in, click “Enable Biometric Lock.” This will lock your biometric data.
How to Unlock Your Biometrics?
If you need biometric verification for banking or government purposes, you can temporarily unlock it. To do this, open the Biometric Lock/Unlock page on the UIDAI website again. Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP. Then, select the “Disable Biometric Lock” or “Temporary Unlock” option. Keep in mind that the temporary unlock is only for a limited time, such as about 10 minutes. After the set time, the biometrics automatically lock again.
How to lock biometrics on your mobile?
UIDAI’s mAadhaar app makes this process easier. First, download the app. Then, add your Aadhaar number and log in via OTP. Tap the Biometric Lock/Unlock option in the app. From here, you can lock or unlock your Aadhaar biometric data with one click.
