8th Pay Commission: The news that was awaited for a long time by central employees can come now. The government can decide the formation of the members of the 8th Pay Commission! Although the official announcement has not been made yet, preparations have been completed in this direction. According to Shiv Gopal Mishra, Staff Side Secretary of National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery, the government can approve the 8th Pay Commission.
He said that the government is working on this issue and the announcement can be made anytime. A member told on the condition of anonymity that approval is about to be received regarding the Terms of Reference (TOR) of the Commission. Earlier it was reported that the TOR would be approved by the end of March, but now there has been some delay in it. This news is going to bring great relief to lakhs of employees and pensioners, who are expecting a significant increase in their salary and pension.

Why is TOR issued
The Terms of Reference (TOR) are the guidelines based on which the Pay Commission works. As soon as the TOR is approved, the government can issue an official notification for the formation of the commission. Earlier it was expected that the 8th Pay Commission would be formed in the first week of April 2025.
But now it is likely that its report will come only after March 2026. Previous pay commissions usually take about 12 months to submit their reports. In March, the Finance Ministry said that some ongoing inputs are still pending. The release of the TOR is the first and most important step for the pay commission to start its work.
What does the 2.86 fitment factor mean
If the fitment factor of 2.86 is implemented in the 8th Pay Commission, it can lead to a significant increase in the basic salary of central employees. This will directly benefit lakhs of employees and pensioners. This can be a relief news for central employees. Now all eyes are on when the government makes its official announcement. This increase will play an important role in the financial empowerment of the employees.
When will the report be available
Although the news of the formation of the Pay Commission has excited the employees, it may take some time for its report to come. As past experiences show, the Pay Commission takes about a year to submit its recommendations.
If the formation process starts in May 2025, its report is likely to come only after March 2026. After the report comes, the government will review it and then decide to implement it. This entire process may take some additional time.
