8th Pay Commission: From Salary to DA, Pension, All Eye on June 22-23,

Currently, there is a lot of attention on the fitment factor. In the 6th Finance Commission, the fitment factor was set at 1.86. This increased to 2.57 during the 7th Finance Commission.

8th Pay Commission: The 8th Pay Commission is traveling across various regions of the country to engage in discussions and collect suggestions from all demographics. Numerous meetings are planned in different states in the upcoming days, where they are looking for input from employee organizations, workers, pensioners, and others.

In the next few weeks, the 8th Finance Commission is set to conduct meetings in Lucknow, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The meetings in Lucknow are scheduled for June 22 and June 23. A notification regarding this was published on the 8th Pay Commission’s website on May 21, 2026.

These meetings are featuring in-depth discussions on employee pensions, salaries, and various other topics. Individuals are actively submitting their suggestions to the Pay Commission. The outcomes of these meetings will significantly influence the reports generated by the 8th Finance Commission, which will impact 111 million employees nationwide.

What was discussed in the Lucknow meeting

The Pay Commission meetings that took place in Lucknow on June 22nd and 23rd focused extensively on fitment factors and other related issues. Employee organizations and various stakeholders participated in these discussions, which covered potential fitment factors, pension reforms, and the expansion of the pay structure. It is important to note that only those who have submitted their requests to the 8th Finance Commission in the required format before June 10, 2026, will be allowed to attend the meetings in Lucknow.

How much will the fitment be?

Currently, there is a lot of attention on the fitment factor. In the 6th Finance Commission, the fitment factor was set at 1.86. This increased to 2.57 during the 7th Finance Commission. The fitment factor for the 8th Finance Commission has yet to be determined. Some reports suggest that the fitment factor for the 8th Finance Commission could range between 2.83 and 3.13.

Where will the commission meetings be held next?

The meeting will be held in Ladakh on June 8, 2026. Prior to this, a meeting is scheduled for Jammu and Kashmir between June 1 and 4. Previously, the 8th Pay Commission met in Delhi on May 13 and 14. The Finance Commission met in Hyderabad on May 18 and 19. The 8th Pay Commission has been a long-standing demand from employees. Last year, the government formed the 8th Finance Commission in November. This commission has 18 months to complete its work.

Meanwhile, railway employees have demanded an increase in their minimum basic salary to ₹52,000, an increase in the fitment factor to 4.38, a significant increase in HRA, and the implementation of the old pension scheme.

If these demands of railway employees are accepted, the 8th Pay Commission could bring significant good news for junior engineers, senior section engineers, assistant managers, and other technical staff. This demand has been made by the Indian Railway Technical Supervisors Association (IRTSA).
