8th Pay Commission Alert: Salary and Pension Hike Update Is Here

8th Pay Commission: Central government employees and pensioners are really looking forward to the 8th Pay Commission. A significant update has come out regarding this commission for central government employees. When asked in the Rajya Sabha, the government confirmed that the commission has officially been set up. The notification was released on November 3, 2025. The 8th Pay Commission is crucial for more than 10 million central government employees and pensioners, as it directly affects their earnings, post-retirement security, and spending power.

In response to a question from MPs, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary mentioned that the 8th Pay Commission has now been officially established. It was created in November 2025. The Commission has been allotted 18 months to prepare its report. This means they will provide recommendations after a detailed analysis and review of the economy. Once the report is submitted, the government will determine when the new pay and pension will take effect.

What does the Pay Commission cover?

The minister’s response also highlighted the main areas the Pay Commission is examining, such as proposed adjustments to pay scales, allowances, and pension systems. MPs also inquired about when the Pay Commission would deliver its report and how the government intends to implement its suggestions.

The minister clarified the pension rules

Pankaj Chaudhary stated that pension adjustments are made strictly following statutory rules and the general orders issued after the Pay Commission’s recommendations are approved. He explained that pension revisions are conducted in line with central government regulations, which are based on laws like the Central Civil Services (Pension) Rules, 2021, and the Central Civil Services (Extraordinary Pension) Rules, 2023. Additionally, other directives issued periodically are also adhered to.

MPs also raised a key question regarding the 8th Pay Commission, how much additional burden its recommendations would impose on the government’s budget . The government clarified that it is currently impossible to accurately estimate this expenditure. According to the government, the actual financial impact cannot be assessed until the Commission submits its report and receives its approval. This means that the budget will be fully prepared only after the Commission’s final report is received.

Website is live

The government has officially launched the website for the 8th Pay Commission. After the launch, the 8th Pay Commission is looking for feedback and suggestions from ministries, departments, central government employees, and other interested parties. They have mentioned that the deadline for submitting responses to the questionnaire is Monday, March 16, 2026.
