PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna: Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme (PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme), the eligibility for the rooftop electricity scheme is continuously increasing and as per the information given by the government, till now it has crossed 10 lakhs. The meaning is clear that solar panels have been installed on the roofs of more than 10 lakh houses in the country. It is worth mentioning that in this government scheme, the central government not only gives free electricity up to 300 units but also gives huge subsidy.
10 lakh solar panels by March 10
According to the information shared by the government, the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna or PMSGMBY has achieved a historic milestone by making 10 lakh homes run on solar energy by March 10, 2025. Let us tell you that under this government scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 February 2024, a target has been set to install solar panels on the roofs of 1 crore houses by the year 2027.
On one hand, this scheme of Modi government has made good progress in many states and especially Chandigarh and Daman and Diu have equipped 100% of their government buildings with rooftop solar panels. Whereas in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, this scheme is becoming increasingly popular and people are taking advantage of it.
Till now subsidy of ₹4770Cr has been given
Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Bijli Scheme, the government had announced an investment of 75,000 crores. In this, a provision was made to give free electricity up to 300 units as well as subsidy to those who install solar panels on the roof of their houses, which makes it popular. Looking at government data, with 47.3 lakh applications received so far, the initiative has already distributed subsidies worth Rs 4,770 crore to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.
Free electricity up to 300 units, no hassle of bills
The main objective of this scheme of Modi government is to provide free electricity up to 300 units to the beneficiaries. Under this scheme, solar panels are installed on the roof of the house, on which the government gives subsidy on the cost.This not only eliminates the hassle of electricity bills, but you can also generate and sell more electricity. Let us talk about the cost of installing solar panels as per your requirement under the scheme, So the cost for 1 kilowatt can be around Rs 90 thousand, for 2 kilowatt it can be around Rs 1.5 lakh and for 3 kilowatt it can be up to Rs 2 lakh.
How much subsidy can be availed?
On installing Solar Rooftop, the government transfers money directly to the bank account. This reduces the burden of installing solar panels. The government provides subsidy of Rs. 30,000 per kilowatt up to 2 kilowatts, A subsidy of Rs 48,000 per kilowatt is given for up to 3 kilowatts and Rs 78,000 per kilowatt is given for more than 3 kilowatts.
A few days after the launch of this scheme, the government gave an update that preparations are being made to change the rules related to it and under this, people applying under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme can get subsidy (Free Electricity Scheme Subsidy) within just 7 days.
