– Strikes are planned for September 11, September 28-30, and an indefinite strike starting from October 26.
– Union Bank of India notified the stock exchange about the strike notices received through the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) in an exchange filing on BSE dated September 9, 2026.
– The bank mentioned that if the strike occurs, its branches and administrative offices across India might be affected. It assured that steps are being taken to manage the strike and ensure smooth operations, although the exact impact is currently uncertain.
Bank of Baroda had previously reported the strikes in an exchange filing on BSE dated September 2, 2026, indicating strikes on September 11, September 28-30, and a continuous strike from October 26.
Bank of Baroda stated it is taking necessary measures to ensure branch and office operations run smoothly but cautioned that the strike could cause disruptions. State Bank of India also disclosed the proposed strikes in an exchange filing on BSE dated September 7, 2026, mentioning strike dates of September 11, September 28-30, and an indefinite strike from October 26. SBI confirmed it had made arrangements to maintain normal operations but acknowledged that the strike might affect work in the bank.
The strike has been organized by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing seven bank employee and officer unions, including AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, and INBOC. The unions are protesting various issues, such as the revised performance-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for senior bank officers and the implementation of a five-day banking week.
Customers should focus on access to banking services during the strike rather than the safety of their funds. It is advisable to complete tasks like cash withdrawals, cheque-related activities, document submissions, and locker services before the strike dates. Digital banking and UPI services will remain operational, but transactions requiring bank staff or back-office processing may face delays.
Key Points for Bank Customers:
– Complete essential branch-related tasks before strike dates.
– Keep cash for necessary expenses in case of needing a branch during the strike.
– Use digital banking and UPI for routine transactions.
– Do not delay documentation or services requiring bank staff.
– Stay updated on announcements from your bank, especially before October 26 to avoid disruptions.
