Yamaha Saluto 125 was a name in the Indian bike market that won the hearts of millions of Indians with its unmatched fuel efficiency and Yamaha reliability. Launched in 2015, this bike proved to be an ideal ride for middle-class riders. Although now Yamaha has stopped the production of this model, even today you will find this bike on the roads across the country. Design and Build Quality

Talking about the design, the design of the Saluto 125 perfectly reflected the Yamaha design language of the time. Its stylish look, sharp cut headlight design and sporty body graphics gave it a distinct identity on the road. The bike’s compact size and mere weight of 112 kg made it extremely easy to ride in urban traffic. The seat height of 805 mm made it perfect for beginners and people of short stature. The build quality of the bike was up to Yamaha’s standards, with good quality plastic and metal parts used.

Engine and Performance

Talking about the engine, the heart of the Saluto 125 was a 125cc, air-cooled, single cylinder engine that produced 8.2 BHP of power at 7000 RPM and 10.1 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. This engine was paired to a 4-speed manual transmission. Although it was not powerful, its performance on city roads was quite satisfactory. Yamaha’s Blue Core technology gave it great fuel efficiency. The refinement levels of the engine were good and it ran for long hours without any major issues. Although its performance was a bit limited on the highway, it was perfect for the city.

Mileage

The biggest highlight of the Saluto 125 was its incredible fuel efficiency. Its ARAI certified mileage was 78 kmpl, while in real conditions it gave mileage of 60-65 kmpl. This figure is better than many new bikes even today. With a 7.6-litre fuel tank, this bike could cover a long distance on a single fuel fill. Its fuel injection technology and light weight made it the king of mileage.

Riding experience and comfort

The Saluto 125 was given telescopic front forks and swing arm rear suspension, which was sufficient for Indian roads. However, the seat comfort decreased a bit in long distance riding. The ground clearance of 180 mm made it suitable for bad roads in rural areas. The drum brakes were sufficient for braking, although the lack of ABS was felt. This bike was quite comfortable for city riding and its light weight helped it to drive easily in traffic.

Features and Variants

The Saluto 125 had basic features that included an analogue instrument cluster, standard headlight and tail lamp, UBS (Unified Braking System) and saree guard. In terms of colour, the bike was available in a number of attractive colours including Brave Black, Victory Red, Dashing White and Matte Green. Although its features may seem simple by today’s standards, it was competitive in its segment at the time.

Price and Competition

In terms of price, the Saluto 125 was priced at around Rs 61,836 (base model) ex-showroom at that time. It competed directly with bikes like Honda Shine and Bajaj Platina. However, its mileage set it apart from its rivals. Even today, this bike is available in the second-hand market between Rs 25,000-35,000.
