Hatchbacks: Hatchbacks have always been the number one preference in Indian families, as they are compact and affordable. But June 2025 told a mixed tale. While some models remained steadfast, others experienced a distinct decline in sales. Let’s see how India’s best hatchbacks fared last month.
Maruti Suzuki Swift
Swift was the best-selling hatchback during June 2025. Maruti retailed 13,275 units last month, although numbers fell by 19% over June 2024. Despite the decline, Swift retained its top spot, indicating that it is still has ardent buyers.
Maruti Suzuki WagonR
The WagonR was just behind Swift. With 12,930 units sold in June 2025, it was the second-highest hatchback on the list. Here, the decline in sales was lesser, only 6% year-on-year. Its strong space and value make it still a favorite among the buyers.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Baleno, erstwhile always in the top three, plummeted sharply. Maruti retailed 8,966 units of Baleno in June, down by a steep 40% from last year. This was the biggest fall in the top 10 chart, reflecting a major change in customer interest.
Tata Tiago
Of all the best-selling hatchbacks, Tata Tiago was among the few with growth. Tata retailed 6,032 units in June, 17% more than June 2024. This indicates that Tiago is gaining traction with its combination of features, safety, and price.

Maruti Suzuki Alto
Alto slipped to fifth position on the list with 5,045 units being sold in June 2025. It declined by a 35% drop from last year. Previously a best-seller in small cities, its demand is now being challenged by stiff competition.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
The Grand i10 Nios ranked sixth with 4,237 units sold, a 14% decline from June last year. Though it took a fall, it remains in the game because of the trust factor of Hyundai and comfort features.
Tata Altroz
Tata Altroz ranked seventh. It sold 3,974 units in June 2025, only a 1% increase over last year. Not much of an increase, perhaps, but still a healthy market response for Altroz.
Hyundai i20
The premium hatchback i20 had a difficult month. Sales fell by 29% at 3,785 units compared to June 2024. SUV competition and high prices could be responsible for the decline.
Toyota Glanza
Glanza also saw a 29% decline in sales, in line with i20’s decline. Toyota retailed 2,938 units of Glanza during June 2025. With even trendy looks and amenities, it appears to be losing its grip in the hatchback segment.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio
At the bottom of the top 10 was Celerio selling 2,038 units. This represented a 32% drop compared to the same period last year. Celerio was unable to uphold its previous popularity, perhaps because it has lacked significant updates.
