Model Y: Years of anticipation finally came to an end with Tesla’s launch of its first car in India. The Model Y is a premium electric SUV offering good performance, high range, and contemporary technology. Its aggressive foray has gained notice within the expanding EV space, particularly with two variants to offer.
Tesla Model Y
Tesla Model Y has made its debut in India with two variants – Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. The standard RWD is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Long Range model comes in at ₹67.89 lakh. Both versions offer premium features and sleek coupe-like styling, with a strong focus on efficiency and minimalist design.
Range
The standard RWD model returns a claimed WLTP range of 500 km, and the Long Range model increases that to 622 km on a single charge. Both have a top speed of 201 kmph. Acceleration is not bad either, with the standard model accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.9 seconds and the Long Range in 5.6 seconds.
Battery and Charging
The base model comes equipped with a 60 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, whereas the Long Range variant has a 75 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery. The support for fast charging at up to 250 kW is anticipated, and Tesla promises 10–80% charge in less than 30 minutes. When charged on a Tesla Supercharger, the SUV is able to add up to 267 km range in 15 minutes.
Interior and Features
Model Y cabin features Tesla’s standard clean and uncluttered design. A huge 15.4-inch central display manages most functions, doing away with conventional buttons and dials. Voice control, over-the-air updates, smartphone key through the Tesla app, and a glass roof come as standard equipment. Features also include dual wireless charging, automatic climate control, and spacious boot at both ends.
Rear Cabin
Rear occupants get an 8-inch screen for media control, climate, navigation, and more. Seats are upholstered with premium material, and the generous design improves comfort on long drives. Tesla has prioritized tech but combined it with minimalist design and high usability for passengers in both rows.
Booking Process
Prospective customers can book the Model Y at a token price of ₹22,220. For securing the booking, another ₹3 lakh has to be deposited within a week.

The SUV comes in six colors, providing more options for those seeking personalization in its premium electric vehicle.
