No Fuel Campaign: The Uttar Pradesh government has launched a strict road safety drive in the state. From September 1 to September 30, individuals driving two-wheelers without helmets will not have fuel provided at fuel pumps. Authorities clarified that it was not to punish the people but to raise awareness about traffic rules and safety. The government feels such measures will promote responsible driving and lower cases of road accidents.

Chief Minister on Safety Campaign

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the campaign was to develop riding discipline and raise awareness about road safety. He reiterated that a helmet is not only compulsory but also a matter of saving lives. Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak also urged riders to desist from overspeeding, obey traffic rules, and prioritize the safety of themselves and their families above all else. The officials together emphasized that a stitch in time saves nine, and small measures such as the use of helmets can save thousands of lives every year.

Strict Monitoring Throughout Districts

The campaign will be conducted under the guidance of district magistrates in Uttar Pradesh. At filling stations, authorities of the Food and Civil Supply Department will oversee compliance with this regulation. To make it easy for people to understand, the Information and Public Relations Department has been assigned to create awareness through various media. The authorities will keep a sharp eye to ensure fuel outlets comply with the new directives correctly throughout September.

Alarming Road Accident Figures

The state government has raised alarming figures to support this campaign. In 2023, Uttar Pradesh saw 44,534 road accidents, which is a higher number than that in 2022. The authorities believe that better enforcement of helmet-wearing can cut down such numbers to a large extent. Most accidents become fatal simply because riders do not wear helmets. With the campaign, the government is looking to modify riding behavior and foster a safety culture among two-wheeler riders.
