When it comes to a luxurious, reliable, and comfortable family vehicle in the Indian automobile market, the Toyota Innova is often the first name that comes to mind. But if you’re currently considering buying a new Innova, wait! The country’s multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment is about to be shaken by a major upheaval.
Major companies like Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and MG Motor are all set to launch three powerful upcoming 7-seater MPV models to shake up the Innova Hycross’s reign. Equipped with hybrid technology, premium space, and pure electric powertrains, these new vehicles will completely transform your commute. Let’s explore the details of these three upcoming rivals, which could prove to be the best deal for your budget and needs.
MG Darion

MG Motor has decided to launch its new and extremely spacious MG Darion to directly compete with the Toyota Innova in the Indian market. With a massive length of nearly 5 meters, this MPV will project a commanding and VIP road presence. Its biggest highlight is its electronic sliding doors, typically found on more expensive and luxury vehicles like the Kia Carnival.
The company is expected to price it competitively in cities like Mumbai, ranging between ₹30 lakh and ₹40 lakh (on-road), making it a powerful and value-for-money option compared to the Innova. Its biggest technical USP is its state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid engine, which combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with a powerful electric motor.
This advanced setup delivers a pure electric range of 125 kilometers on battery power alone, meaning your daily commute to and from work within the city will be virtually effortless. At the same time, combining both petrol and battery, this car offers a remarkable combined range of nearly 1,000 kilometers, ensuring you never worry about running out of fuel on long journeys.
In terms of features, its luxurious cabin boasts a massive 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch digital driver’s display, Level-2 ADAS safety features, six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and leather-clad powered seats.
Tata 7-Seater MPV
Tata Motors is also working on a unique and robust project to complement the Innova Highcross. The company is developing a new Tata 7-Seater MPV based on the modern architecture of its iconic Sierra SUV. This means that this car offers a unique combination of the muscular looks and high, commanding seating position of an SUV, along with the excellent practicality and space of a large MPV.
The car is expected to launch in the Indian market by late 2027 or early 2028, with an expected on-road price of approximately ₹2.2 million to ₹3.0 million, keeping it very affordable. The cabin is designed like a modern lounge, with a high-tech triple-screen layout on the dashboard. To elevate passenger comfort, it will feature VIP features like dedicated AC vents for the third row, a head-up display (AR HUD), wireless charging, and a powered tailgate.
In terms of safety, Tata will offer six airbags and advanced Level-2+ ADAS as standard. Customers will find the same three reliable engine options as the Sierra: a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.5-liter Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, and a torquey 1.5-liter diesel engine, ensuring excellent power on all terrains.

Maruti Suzuki YMC EV
To establish its dominance in the electric vehicle segment, Maruti Suzuki is rapidly developing its first pure electric 7-seater MPV, the Maruti YMC. The vehicle, which has been spotted testing heavily on Indian roads several times, will be significantly larger and more premium than the current Ertiga. The company is building it on the state-of-the-art Heartect-e (27PL) skateboard platform developed for the upcoming e-Vitara.
The biggest advantage of this dedicated EV platform is the vehicle’s completely flat floor, eliminating the need for third-row passengers to bend their knees, providing exceptional legroom. Being a pure electric vehicle, the Maruti YMC will feature the same two powerful battery pack options as the e-Vitara: a 49kWh battery and a larger 61kWh battery.
With its large battery pack, this car will offer an impressive range of over 500 km on a single full charge, allowing your entire family to enjoy long distances without any pollution or noise.
Inside the cabin, it will have a large dual-screen infotainment and instrument cluster setup, powered front seats, beautiful ambient lighting, a fixed glass roof for an airy cabin, and Level-2 AIDAS safety to entice customers. This excellent electric family car is expected to be launched in early 2027, with an expected on-road price of around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh.
