Skoda Kylaq CNG: Skoda is paving the way for a fresh chapter in India’s SUV space, and this time it’s about efficiency. With the growing demand for cleaner and affordable options, the upcoming Skoda Kylaq CNG might rechart what Indian consumers want from a compact SUV.

A Big Step into the CNG Market

As Indian buyers gradually move towards more cost-effective fuel choices, CNG vehicles are picking up momentum. Skoda is taking this trend head-on by gearing up to enter the CNG segment with the Kylaq, its entry into this rising class. This step demonstrates the company’s move to mix premium amenities with affordable fuel options.

Word from the Top

In an interview recently, Skoda India Brand Director Ashish Gupta indicated that the Kylaq CNG is no longer a mere rumor. Although still in the process of development, the company is already testing the compatibility of its turbo petrol engines with CNG technology. Once technically satisfied, Skoda will officially unveil the Kylaq CNG.

Engine and Transmission Details

The Kylaq CNG will most likely be equipped with the same 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine of the standard version. The same engine is good for 116 PS power and 178 Nm of torque. CNG variants, however, tend to have a slight loss in performance to achieve maximum fuel efficiency. The vehicle can be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, which will keep costs low.

Targeting a Unique Market Segment

If launched, Skoda Kylaq CNG would become India’s second turbo petrol-CNG SUV after the Tata Nexon CNG. It aims to serve buyers who seek a balance between performance and mileage but prefer not to go for diesel or electric models. A CNG-powered Kylaq would appeal to those prioritising running cost without compromising on brand or driving dynamics.

Global Experience with CNG

Skoda is not new to the CNG segment worldwide. It already retails models such as Octavia, Scala, and Citigo with CNG engines in overseas markets. Having this previous exposure offers the company a great platform to launch a refined and fuel-efficient CNG SUV on Indian roads.

Expected Launch Timeline

While Skoda has not made any official launch date announcements for the Kylaq CNG, ongoing tests and development timelines point to a potential launch by late 2025 or early 2026. The expectation is mounting, and if a successful introduction occurs, the door will be left open for other CNG SUVs in the premium compact segment.
