MG Motor India has extended its Battery as a Service (BaaS) program to the Comet EV and ZS EV models in India. The announcement comes after the recently launched MG Windsor EV became the first electric offering in India to get a battery rental option.
The new MG Comet EV has received a massive price cut. It now starts at ₹ 4.99 lakh with a battery rental option. The MG ZS EV now starts at ₹ 13.99 lakh with a battery rental program starting at ₹ 4.5 per km.
What is the BaaS Program
The BaaS program is gaining popularity as it makes EVs more accessible to a wider range of customers, especially those who may be hesitant to invest in a large upfront cost for a battery. It also reduces the financial risk associated with owning an EV, as customers don’t have to worry about battery degradation or replacement costs.
What the official said
Satinder Singh Bajwa, Chief Commercial Officer, JSW MG Motor India, said that with BaaS, we have created a platform for easy car ownership, making our EVs more accessible than ever.
Given the strong response received by Windsor under the BaaS program, we are now expanding it to our popular EV models, Comet and ZS. I am confident that this program will further boost EV adoption in the country.
Battery Backup
The MG Comet EV is the brand’s most affordable electric offering in the country. It promises a range of 230 km (certified) on a single charge. On the other hand, the MG ZS EV gets a 50.3kWh battery pack.
On a single charge, this EV offers a range of 461 km (certified). JSW Motor India has partnered with several financial institutions including Bajaj FinServ, Hero Fincorp, Ecofy Autovert, etc. to offer its services with ease.
Pricing
The battery rental option makes MG’s electric vehicle line-up more accessible than ever, reducing the parity between the brand’s ICE and EV models. The MG ZS EV is now priced at par with the MG Astor (both models share the same underpinnings).
