Maruti Ertiga: In a competition-led market and trend-ridden marketplace, there is one MPV that still sits on top of the pile with glory. Maruti Ertiga has again taken over as India’s best 7-seater, dominating May 2025 car sales with pride. Even Mahindra Scorpio could not compete with its reign this time. The stable demand and mixed bundle of features give Ertiga an Indian family favorite status.
Interior and Comfort
Maruti Ertiga is centered around comfort and practicality. It features a 7-seater design perfect for bigger families or group travelers. It has a well-ventilated cabin with automatic climate control and paddle shifters that add to the driving experience. The seats are ergonomically crafted for highway comfort over long distances. The availability of cruise control adds even more convenience on highways.
Features and Mileage
The Ertiga comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that provides 103PS power and 137Nm torque. It has two variants of fuel—petrol and CNG. The petrol variant provides a mileage of 20.51 kmpl, and the CNG version is astonishing with 26.11 km/kg. With these stats, Ertiga is an ideal combination of power and economy.
It also features a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, replacing the older 7-inch unit. With Suzuki’s SmartPlay Pro technology, it supports voice commands and connected car features. These include geo-fencing, vehicle tracking, remote operations, and tow-away alerts. A 360-degree surround view camera improves safety and ease of parking in tight urban spaces.
Sales Performance in May 2025
May 2025 sales performance of Ertiga has reaffirmed its supremacy. It retailed 16,140 units in May 2025 compared to 13,893 units in May 2024—a 16% year-on-year increase. It has moved into the number 2 spot in overall car sales, just behind the Maruti Dzire.
As compared to this, Mahindra Scorpio sold just 14,401 units, a great contender in the 7-seater segment, but fell short otherwise. Scorpio is still at a disadvantage when measured against such huge demand for Ertiga.
Strong Presence in Top 10 List
As per the current car sale rankings, Ertiga is still well ahead of other mass favorites. Its name features alongside others such as Brezza, Creta, Swift, and even the Tata Punch. Nevertheless, none of them have been able to topple Ertiga from the number one position in the 7-seater category.
Its success also pressures competitors such as the Scorpio, which although a good SUV, cannot compare with Ertiga’s value proposition. This clearly indicates that practicality and affordability remain dominant consumer decisions.
Starting Price and Value
Ertiga’s launch price of ₹8.96 lakh (ex-showroom) makes it an attractive proposition for middle-class consumers seeking a 7-seater with sure-shot reliability. With its firm feature list, fuel efficiency, and repeat purchase value, Ertiga offers sound investment returns. Its balance of performance, features, and functionality makes it well worthy of its success in both urban and rural markets.
