RC: It’s tiring to lose your car or bike’s RC (Registration Certificate), but obtaining a duplicate RC is no longer a cumbersome process. Due to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ digital initiative, you don’t have to go to an agent or a middleman to apply for a duplicate RC. Simply go through a few simple steps and get it done sitting at home.

What to Do If Your RC Is Lost

If your RC is stolen or lost, do not worry. This document is crucial because it guarantees that your vehicle belongs to you. Issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), it is needed for legal ownership and identification of the vehicle. Now, getting a duplicate RC is simpler than ever with an online process which saves time and prevents the hassle of paperwork.

Documents Required Before Applying

Preferably, have the required documents in hand while commencing the application process. They consist of a copy of FIR lodged after the loss of RC, original police report, Form 26, valid insurance certificate, Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and address proof such as Aadhaar card, Voter ID, passport, or electricity bill.

Step-by-Step Online Application Process

First, go to the official Parivahan Sewa site. On the home page, click on the “Online Services” option and choose “Vehicle-Related Services.” From the drop-down list, select your state. Next, click on the “Duplicate RC” option.

If you’re not registered on the portal yet, register yourself. Once you’ve registered, log in to the portal with your user name and password. Now, fill in your vehicle registration number and the last 5 digits of the chassis number, and submit it.

Proceed with the Aadhaar-based e-KYC by entering your Aadhaar number and verifying the OTP sent to your phone. Fill in the online form with all necessary details and upload the scanned copies of the required documents. After filling out the application, pay the required fees online.

Final Step: Visit Your RTO

After completing the online application, you will have to go to the nearest RTO for the last part. Schedule an appointment well in advance for physical validation of the vehicle. On the date fixed, carry a printout of the application and all the original documents to the RTO. After verification, your duplicate RC will be handed over to you within a couple of working days.

This new internet-based system avoids agents, cuts down on paperwork, and makes it hassle-free and transparent for car owners.
