Kia Syros: India’s electric vehicle market is expanding very fast, and Kia Motors is preparing to launch its cheapest electric car soon. Kia’s next cheapest electric car, the Syros EV, has been spotted in India being tested, generating hopes among EV consumers. It has been reported that Kia plans to penetrate the cost-effective EV market, and hence the car will be a big competitor to other small electric SUVs.

Kia Syros EV Spotted During Testing

The Kia Syros EV has been spotted recently at a Kochi charging station. Even while it was completely covered on test runs, there were glimpses of some of its design features. It resembled its ICE counterpart quite closely but with slight changes that distinguish it as an EV. The sighting suggests that Kia is on the verge of completing the testing phase and finalizing its launch in the Indian market.

Design and Exterior Highlights

From the first glance, the Syros EV will retain the majority of its petrol version’s styling elements. Window lines, roof rails, pillars, shark fin antenna, and body-colored ORVMs are untouched. Even headlamps and taillamps are expected to remain identical. But the EV variant will get a closed front grille, EV badging, and green brake calipers. A charging point at the front may also be part of its new design.

Range and Battery Options

Though Kia is yet to announce the official specs, according to reports, the powertrain of the Syros EV might be shared with that of the Hyundai Inster EV. Internationally, the Inster is equipped with two NMC battery pack sizes: 42kWh and 49kWh. Depending on the model, it has a range of around 300 km to 355 km. Should these carry over, the Syros EV will be well-equipped with good performance for daily city commutes and light highway spins.

Expected Price and Competition

The Kia Syros EV will reportedly be priced at an introductory level of approximately ₹14 lakh for the lowest-end model and the range-topper model may reach ₹20 lakh. This will position it as Kia’s cheapest electric SUV in the Indian market. It will compete with MG Windsor EV, Tata Punch EV, and Tata Nexon EV after its launch. With this new addition, Kia will bolster its base in the electric car market, which is expanding fast.
