The Indian SUV segment has been increasingly moving towards 6- and 7-seater variants, providing families with more space, comfort, and practicality. Two such models are Hyundai Alcazar and MG Hector Plus. Both are for family buyers who desire premium comfort with robust features. If you have to choose between them, this in-depth comparison will guide you through where every car excels.
Engine and Performance
Hyundai Alcazar has two engines: a 1.5-litre turbo petrol of about 160 PS, and a 1.5-litre diesel with 115 PS and 250 Nm torque. Transmission is six-speed manual, seven-speed DCT for petrol, and manual and automatic for diesel. The diesel model is quite good with almost 20 km/l mileage and thus economical for lengthy driving.
MG Hector Plus employs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with approximately 143 PS and 250 Nm and comes with manual, CVT, or dual-clutch auto options. A more powerful 2.0-litre diesel makes 168 PS and 350 Nm, giving better highway performance. Its diesel efficiency, however, comes in at approximately 15.5 km/l. Petrol CVT variants of Hector Plus do no more than 7–9 km/l in dense city traffic, which will make cost-sensitive buyers anxious.
Fetures and Comfort
Hyundai Alcazar is equipped with features designed to make family living easy. Some of the highlights include dual-zone climate control, Bose audio system, wireless charging for rear occupants, memory function driver seat, folding tables, and tablet holders. It even gets ADAS and blind-spot cameras for better safety and driving convenience.
MG Hector Plus is more about luxury and connected technology. A giant vertical touchscreen overwhelms the dashboard, accompanied by ventilated front seats and MG’s i-Smart app. Cabin air quality is enhanced with a PM2.5 filter. Features are premium-feeling, though certain crucial conveniences such as rear wireless charging or driver’s seat memory are absent.
Ride Quality and Interior Feel
Hyundai Alcazar has a stimulating drive. Feedback indicates its drive systems bring together harmoniously, with the third row suited for children or short adults only. Cabin materials are mostly soft, with some plastics being less premium.
MG Hector Plus, in contrast, offers great comfort, particularly in the middle row, where three adults can comfortably sit. Its plush nature and roomy cabin make it a perfect vehicle for long family road trips. Real-world fuel efficiency on petrol models, however, is still an issue.
