Maruti Escudo: If you are thinking of buying a new petrol SUV, the coming months are going to be interesting. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors are working on launching new petrol SUVs with new designs and new features. Some will be all-new while some will come with major upgrades. This will provide consumers with more options and boost competition in the SUV segment.

Maruti Suzuki Escudo

Maruti will launch its second mid-size SUV, which is presently christened the Escudo. The Escudo will be based on the Grand Vitara but will find its way into Arena showrooms. Engine variants could range from a 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.5L hybrid petrol, and a CNG. There will also be manual and automatic transmission options available to buyers.

Next-Gen Hyundai Venue

Hyundai will introduce the third-generation Venue with a fresh new design and contemporary features. The powertrain options will remain unchanged, with the 1.2L petrol, 1.0L turbo petrol, and 1.5L diesel engines available. The interior will undergo significant updates such as a dual 12.3-inch screen layout, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, and enhanced ADAS tech. All these are likely to make the Venue more premium and sophisticated.

Tata Punch Facelift

Tata Motors is also working on a facelift variant of its budget SUV Punch. The new model will feature a bigger touchscreen, touch-based HVAC control panel, and a new steering wheel. Nothing will be changed beneath the hood. It will retain the 1.2L three-cylinder petrol motor that delivers 87bhp and 115Nm of torque. Transmission options will be a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

Tata Harrier Petrol

Tata is launching the Harrier with a petrol engine for the very first time. The SUV will employ the firm’s new 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol engine. It will come with 170bhp of power and 280Nm of torque. It will be available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The petrol variant will make the Harrier more affordable for those who do not like diesel engines.

Tata Safari Petrol

In addition to the Harrier, the Safari also gets the same 1.5L TGDi turbo petrol engine. It will have the same power and torque output with manual and automatic gearbox options. With this change, the Safari will appeal to a larger audience, particularly large family buyers seeking a petrol option.
