Tata Motors is gearing up for a significant expansion in its compact SUV range. With a strategic objective of bringing in about 30 models in this decade, the brand is banking big on compact SUVs to drive volume and penetrate new price points. From refreshed versions of best-selling models to new ones, Tata is looking to revamp its portfolio and draw in more numbers.
Tata Punch & Punch EV Facelifts
Tata has already started testing facelift models of the Punch, as indicated by camouflaged test examples of the petrol version. These are set to be mid-cycle updates, introducing new design elements and features. A lot from the Punch EV may be carried over to the regular Punch, but the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor is set to remain untouched. Meanwhile, the Punch EV can expect significant upgradations, such as a bigger battery and improved range, taking cues from the Nexon EV’s technology.
Tata Scarlet
Also under development is an all-new sub-4m compact SUV, codenamed Scarlet. This SUV is reportedly following the aggressive look of the Sierra with a squared-off face and tall stance. Though smaller than the Sierra, the Scarlet is expected to retain similar design cues and deliver a contemporary, tough appearance for entry-level SUV buyers.
Next-Gen Tata Nexon & New Nexon EV
Tata is also said to be working on the next generation of its top-selling Nexon. Codenamed Garud, this variant will ride on a heavily reworked version of the X1 platform. The third-generation Nexon will probable feature a whole new design language and a new cabin design, looking to remain atop one of India’s most cutthroat SUV segments. Simultaneously, the Nexon EV also gets a makeover, continuing Tata’s drive towards futuristic electric mobility with enhanced features and design upgrades.
