SUVs: The Indian SUV market is about to get more exciting. Over the next 18 months, several new midsize SUVs will launch, giving buyers fresh choices in the internal combustion engine (ICE) space. Brands like Tata, Mahindra, Renault, Kia, and Nissan are preparing new models and upgrades, promising better design, performance, and features. Let’s take a look at what’s coming.

Tata Sierra

The iconic Sierra is returning from Tata Motors, but this time as an electric and an ICE variant. Although the electric version is likely to arrive first, a diesel and petrol variant will follow after it. The ICE variants will get Tata’s new 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the tried-and-tested 2.0-litre diesel engine. The SUV will likely take its platform bits from the Harrier, ensuring a sturdy build and performance.

Kia Seltos

Kia’s new-generation Seltos is already being spotted during road trials. Even though Kia did not announce the exact launch schedule, it’s believed to hit markets in 2026. A new exterior and revamped cabin are in the offing. The interior is expected to come with improved features and quality. Informs also indicate the availability of a hybrid variant as part of the offerings, which will be a more fuel-efficient variant in its next generation.

Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra is working on a facelift for its bestseller XUV700. The new model will be launched in early 2026 with subtle styling updates and enhanced features. The mechanical configuration remains unchanged with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. Interior tweaks and additional features will provide customers with more reasons to choose this SUV once more.

Renault Duster

The Duster is returning to India with a new generation. Renault is employing the CMF-B+ platform this time, which will be localized for Indian production. The new Duster will be newer, both in look and tech. A hybrid powertrain is also likely to be offered, which will be a significant departure from its last iteration. This may help it become a tough competitor in the fuel-efficient midsize SUV segment.

Nissan Midsize SUV

Nissan is also moving back into the midsize SUV segment. Having launched a compact MPV on the Renault Triber’s platform, Nissan will introduce a new SUV as a replacement for the Terrano. The new SUV is likely to hit the market in the initial part of the next financial year. Further information is pending, but this has the potential to get Nissan back into the fray with a new model.
