Hybrid SUVs: India’s SUV market is shifting rapidly, and hybrids are gathering speed. While electric vehicles still have issues such as limited fueling stations and range issues to overcome, hybrids are becoming the intelligent middle ground. Automakers are now making big bets on seven-seater hybrid SUVs, offering fuel efficiency, space, and utility.
Hyundai Ni1i SUV
Hyundai is developing an all-new SUV that goes by the internal codename Ni1i, expected some time in 2027. It will be slotted between the Alcazar and Tucson, thus being a premium three-row offering. Initial reports indicate the utilisation of a hybridised 1.5-litre petrol power unit, a configuration likely to see action in future Hyundai offerings. Thanks to this SUV, Hyundai might have one of its main India launches, with a blend of practicality and latest hybrid tech.
Renault Boreal
Renault is big on India plans, and the Boreal fits into that vision. It promises to be a big SUV with a hybrid variant, coming in after the new-generation Duster. The Boreal will appeal to family consumers seeking additional seats, comfort, and better fuel efficiency. Although its launch might be delayed, the buzz is already high on this seven-seater hybrid.
Nissan SUV
Nissan is gearing up to launch a midsize SUV in India, followed by a three-row larger sibling. The model will use the underpinnings of the Renault Boreal, providing Nissan with much-needed entry into the segment of hybrid SUVs, which is highly competitive. Sitting above the Magnite, it should compete with entrenched players such as Creta, Seltos, and Scorpio N. With hybrid technology, it might turn out to be a top value-for-money option for Indian customers.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara 7-Seater
Maruti Suzuki may soon expand the Grand Vitara lineup with a seven-seater version. The existing hybrid setup is likely to be carried forward, offering strong fuel efficiency with added cabin space. As family buyers continue to demand practical SUVs with modern features, the Grand Vitara 7-seater could be a natural fit in Maruti’s strategy.
Toyota Hyryder 7-Seater
Toyota also plans to launch a stretched variant of the Hyryder. With its hybrid efficiency, the Hyryder would be a potential choice for people looking for additional seats without sacrificing mileage. If launched, it will enhance Toyota’s hybrid line-up and provide one more robust option in the midsize SUV segment.
